Suzlon Group, India’s largest wind energy solutions provider, has won a fresh 248.85 MW wind power order from the ArcelorMittal Group through its renewable energy arm in India.
The order is part of a 550 MW hybrid renewable project in Gujarat, where Suzlon will supply wind energy for captive use at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel’s facilities in India. With this latest deal, Suzlon further strengthens its leadership position in the state, where it already has an installed wind capacity base of 4.5 GW, the highest in Gujarat.
This is Suzlon’s fourth major wind energy order linked to decarbonising steel production. With this project, the company’s total contribution to India’s green steel capacity now stands at around 1,156 MW. Over the past year, Suzlon has been working closely with leading steel manufacturers to help speed up the shift towards low-carbon steelmaking.
Commenting on the development, Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman, Suzlon Group, said the company is proud to partner with ArcelorMittal, one of the world’s most respected steel producers. He highlighted that while steel remains the backbone of India’s infrastructure, it is also among the most energy-intensive industries.
As the steel sector steps up its decarbonisation efforts, Tanti noted that renewable energy is emerging as a competitive and practical solution. Suzlon, he added, is committed to supporting this transition through strong partnerships and industry platforms such as the Indian Steel Green Council.
