The Middle East is once again on edge as Iran Israel War. Amid the growing conflict, Russia has stepped forward with an offer to help calm the situation.
The Kremlin says it is ready to provide “all possible support” to help stop the fighting and prevent the crisis from getting worse.
The region is currently witnessing one of the most serious military escalations in recent years, raising fears of a wider war.
On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Moscow is willing to act as a mediator and help reduce tensions in West Asia. According to him, Russia is ready to use diplomatic channels to encourage talks between the sides involved.
The Putin–Trump Phone Call
Russia’s announcement comes shortly after a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.
The two leaders often disagree on several global issues, especially the war in Ukraine. But when it comes to the current Middle East crisis, there seems to be some room for discussion.
Putin’s Proposal:
Russia has reportedly suggested a few possible ways to help mediate and reduce tensions between the countries involved.
Trump’s Reaction:
Trump described the conversation as “very good” and said Putin appeared willing to help. At the same time, he added that Russia could be even more helpful if it also worked toward ending the war in Ukraine.
The call shows that despite their differences, both leaders understand how serious the situation in the Middle East has become.

Why Russia Is Getting Involved
Experts believe Russia’s offer to mediate is not just about diplomacy. There are several strategic reasons behind the move.
Rising Oil Prices
The conflict has pushed global oil prices above $100 per barrel. While Russia is a major oil exporter and usually benefits from higher prices, too much instability, especially around the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil shipping route, can create problems for global markets.
Russia prefers stable prices rather than sudden shocks.
The Ukraine War
By taking a lead role in the Middle East crisis, Russia may also be trying to shift international attention away from the war in Ukraine.
If global focus moves to West Asia, it could ease some pressure on Moscow.
Regaining Influence in the Region
Russia has long tried to maintain a strong influence in the Middle East. However, its position weakened after the fall of the Assad government in Syria in 2024, which had been one of Moscow’s key allies.
Offering to mediate now allows Russia to show it still plays an important diplomatic role in the region.
Maintaining Regional Ties
Russia maintains relations with several countries in the region, including Iran and Israel. Acting as a mediator could help Moscow maintain those relationships while also strengthening its image as a global power.
Can Russia Really Stop the Fighting?
Even though Russia’s offer sounds promising, the situation on the ground remains tense.
On the same day Russia spoke about mediation, the U.S. Pentagon reportedly described it as the “most intense day of strikes” against Iranian targets in the current conflict.
For any peace effort to succeed, Russia would have to convince several key players, Iran, Israel, and the United States, to step back from further escalation.
That will not be easy.
For now, Russia’s proposal has added a new diplomatic angle to the crisis. Whether it leads to real negotiations or simply becomes another move in global power politics remains to be seen.
