DeepSeek is a Chinese artificial intelligence company developed by a startup based in Hangzhou. DeepSeek was founded in 2023 by Liang Wenfeng, whose background is so strong. He was a co-founder of the Chinese hedge fund High-Flyer.

But, Italy’s data protection authority ordered DeepSeek to block its chatbot in the country because they failed to address the regulator’s concerns over its data privacy policy.

Not Just Italy, Ireland and France are also questioning DeepSeek over its privacy policy. Even the Netherlands privacy watchdog said it would launch an investigation over DeepSeek’s data collection practices.

People have concerns about China’s connection because China’s data privacy laws, like the Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL), are increasingly stringent, but their enforcement and compliance can still pose risks, especially for international companies. There is also uncertainty around the government’s access to data, especially for companies operating within China.

China has a robust cybersecurity law, and businesses operating in the country may face stricter security requirements. There have been incidents where sensitive data was targeted in cyberattacks, sometimes linked to state-sponsored actors.
